For those of you who don’t know me, let me bring you up to scratch. Three years ago, I ran away to sea to embark on a new adventure. I became an on board Photographer, travelled the world, made amazing friends and memories to last a life time. Since my return home, I’ve had the desire to write about my experience, in the hope of encouraging others to embark on an adventure of their own. There’s not enough information out there about this type of lifestyle, so before others make this life changing decision to leave home, I hope they will find this series and learn more about it.
The decision to create the ‘Life at Sea’ series took a lot of thought and consideration. I always wanted to start it, but something held me back. Maybe it was the fear of sounding pretentious, or the idea that no-one would read it. It’s safe to say that I was afraid of judgement, so for quite some time now I put my idea on hold.
When I asked my friends, family and followers what they thought of the series idea, I was met with nothing but positivity and encouragement. They reminded me that not everyone has had such an opportunity; some might not know that it even exists! If I could help to inspire others to try this journey themselves, wouldn’t that be worth writing for? I’d tell them of the ups and downs that come with that lifestyle (Like the waves, get it? Sorry, I couldn’t avoid using that one), and all of the little details in between. Through encouragement and feedback, I’ve decided to give the series a go. Here’s to Life at Sea.
What the blog series shall entail:
– From shoppie to singer; the privileges that come with different jobs
– The social side; why working at sea is like being back in school
– Behind the smiles; inside the mind of a crew member
– The travel perks; why it’s all worth it
– Finding love on board; the rules and restrictions
– From hook ups to hangovers; Crew parties at their finest
– Under the sea; Officer and Crew living quarters
And so much more…
When the series will be running:
I will be running my series steadily throughout the course of the year. I aim to post once or twice every month, but forgive me if life gets in the way sometimes!
These are just some of the ideas that I will be covering over the series. I aim to extend that list as time goes on. If anyone has any other suggestions for topics that they would like to hear about, let me know in a comment below.
If you liked this post and would like a travel piece to read before the series starts, why not try my 10 Reasons to work at Sea post – Just something to get you started. I’ve also linked a few of my social media accounts below, if you would like to stay updated on the series. I look forward to sharing it all with you!
